It can be a challenge to enlarge a favorite small format image onto a bigger substrate.
Here the 8x8" canvas had some texture from crafted acrylic tissue paper
collage pieces. I was able to skim paint across those hills and valleys and
leave a nice abstract image with ease. The larger 30x30 canvas had virtually no
texture like that so I'm using a palette knife and loose strokes to create some visual
texture. I think it's working.

This has an appx 1/2" white border for a total width of 15x22 watercolor paper.
Painted intuitively with juicy acrylics using a silicone spreader - no brush marks. The new tools
in my toolbox. Loose pencil or charcoal marks show through lending some surface interest.

I activate the surface before I ever start painting. It's a great way to loosen up and
destroy the fear of a blank substrate. Also, by veiling with glazed colors, some
of these marks remain creating interest. Love this process.
MELODY CLEARY - CONTEMPORARY PAINTINGS - ABSTRACT, NATURE AND LANDSCAPE
Working on this painting I began with the warmish colors of fall and then later the
addition of the blue and bluish white conjured a feeling of winter frost and ice. Thus, a wintry mix.
22 x 15 inches, acrylic mixed media on 140# smooth watercolor paper.

MELODY CLEARY - CONTEMPORARY LANDSCAPE, ABSTRACT AND NATURE ARTIST
It's the Fall season.....how can the colors not speak to an artist!
I'm back to painting after having to take time off after a fall and readjusting my
life to being non ambulatory. No surprise as I've been affected with Charcot Marie Tooth disease
for about my whole life.....a slow progressive peripheral nerve disease. I wore braces for almost 30
years, with crutches, and a scooter outdoors, then indoors.....now just the scooter gets me around.
Just another change for me and I couldn't do it without my devoted husband's help.....
and he just retired a year ago. 35 years of marriage we celebrate this November!!
'Tis the season to be grateful!
"Early Fall". 12 x 12 inch cradled panel. Acrylic and mixed media.
