Sometimes, as artists, we aren't particularly inspired and don't know what to paint. There is a block. The best thing for me to do is to get some texture down with a color which I did here with rice paper and modeling paste. Once that's dry, I go over it with some soft gloss gel medium which, when dry, leaves a slick surface for applying some glazing. The yellow orange is the underpainting - pthalo blue was applied with some white and I dragged the paint down so the rice paper wrinkles would catch the blue. Water themes are my 'go to' subjects so now I see something here in abstract form. How will this develop, I wonder. Now the surprise factor gets me excited!
